The new East Hotel Snow Bunnies package is the smart way to get from Sydney to the snow! About the same time I would normally be lining up bleary-eyed at Cooma Maccas on a Friday night Sydney-Snow run with the hordes I was hooking into my affogato at Agostinis in the East Hotel, 5 minutes off the freeway passing Canberra heading south.
Agostinis is Canberra’s best family Italian restaurant, and the affogato followed the best pizza washed down by a peroni and some of their local house sangiovese. Then in bed by 10.30 instead of driving till midnight.
So did we miss much in the morning?
Nope, Siri says it’s 2 hours 29 minutes to Perisher, or 5 minutes more to Thredbo, or 15 minutes less to Skitube. After a relaxed breakfast at East Hotel’s Muse Cafe, leaving by 8.00am gets you on snow by 10.45 or so therefore, relaxed and ready to ride.
Versus keep on driving, with all the other tired and impatient snow goers, not to mention a million roos waiting south of Canberra (seriously in 35 years of snow trips I have never seen so many dead roos as yesterday, maybe 30 in the 5km from Royalla to Williamsdale!) – so slow down folks, save them and your car/selves), and arrive exhausted, too late to do anything at the snow.
For what you pay for average accommodation at the snow you can enjoy the deluxe East Hotel Snow Bunnies package – couples $330, or ‘Tribe’ (2 adults & 2 kids 2 bedroom) $450, which includes a $100 bonus food and beverage voucher to use at the East’s venues. Agostini’s is sensational value; it’s popular with politicians and staffers but they keep it very reasonable – share the metre pizza with 6-8 adults, and the share dessert board looks a treat. Joe’s Bar does some great cocktails, it is Friday night after all, and stopping here you have finished driving.
The Snow Bunnies deal works great on the way home too – beat the traffic jam down and be enjoying the mulled wine on arrival at East while most are doing the bumper-to-bumper crawl to Jindabyne.
Snow Action’s gorgeous snow bunnies and I ate well and rested better. This is a super deal, it’s a few minutes off the freeway heading south, and 5 minutes back on to the freeway heading on to the snow.
