What's new at Treble Cone for 2015?
They already got the first little dump of the season in January, & work continues on some excellent improvements to many people’s favourite Kiwi resort, Treble Cone here’s a preview –
NEW INTERMEDIATE SADDLE BASIN TRAILS
In the popular Saddle Basin, with its reliable natural snow and quad chairlift access, earthworks will see Side Saddle introduced as a new intermediate groomed trail. This new trail will be located adjacent to Raffills Run, and will deliver a new, wide intermediate option.
Nearby, Saddle Back will have a new wider and gentler entrance created, which coupled with the widening of a narrow section mid trail, will transfer this previously underutilised and difficult to locate advanced trail into a fun, sweeping intermediate run through the heart of the Saddle Basin.
The entrance to the Saddle Basin’s pin-up intermediate trail Raffills Run, which offers wide groomed snow and sweeping views across Lake Wanaka, will be re-aligned to deliver a new wider and easier entrance off High Street, to replace the previous narrow entrance to this popular trail.
NEW ON-MOUNTAIN ALFRESCO CAFE
At the top of the Home Basin Treble Cone is introducing a new alfresco cafe, serving barista made Allpress coffee, chef cooked lunches from the grill, and winter’s most spectacular location, to enjoy a refreshing end of day drink with views across the lake and the snow capped Southern Alps.
The new cafe’s location will allow access for all mountain users, from those lapping the Saddle Basin who can circuit around High Street to refuel before heading back to the Saddle, to skiers and snowboarders enjoying the Home Basin trails including Easy Rider and Main Street, and even sight-seers enjoying a scenic chairlift ride to take in the views from Treble Cone.
“The new intermediate trails which include earthworks and snow fencing to create additional groomed intermediate options in the Saddle Basin, plus the introduction of a new open air mountain top cafe in the Home Basin, deliver the ski area’s most exciting developments since the installation of the Saddle Quad Chairlift in 2005” Jackie van der Voort, General Manager.
Treble Cone won ‘New Zealand’s Best Ski Resort’ in 2013 and again in 2014 at the World Ski Awardsheld in Kitzbuhel, Austria.
