Road Testing the Salomon Sigma Goggles & Helmet Combo

I had the privilege of road testing the Salomon Driver Prime helmet and goggleset on a recent snow trip. It’s got all its features and it’s worth every cent.

It manages to achieve the incredible balance between utter simplicity for skiers and riders who can’t stand fiddling with their gear during a snow day while including a heck of a lot of technical features. 

Built in goggles

The main feature of note are the goggles built into the helmet. When you want to lift your goggles up on top of your head to go to lunch or get a coffee you pull the goggles away from your eyes on the elastic and it sits perfectly up on top of the helmet and holds tightly in place. When you’re ready to put your goggles back over your eyes you simply and gently pull the goggles over your eyes and they hold firmly in place.

One Hand Bandit

It uses the Fidlock technology which is a simple but life changing premise that will positively benefit so many people, it’s a magnetic buckle that slides sideways and you can use it with one hand even when you have ski gloves on. I have an on-going hand issue so this was a game changer for me.

Good head fit

You can make the helmet fit your head perfectly by twisting the The BOA® Fit System, knob at the back so your head and goggles don’t bounce around as you ski or ride. Big plus!

Spectacle wearers

This is a great helmet/goggle combo for the people who need to wear reading glasses as the goggles interior is roomy and made to accommodate spectacles.

Injury prevention

A heck of a lot of research has gone into this technology, it uses the MIPS system (Multi Impact Protection System) designed to reduce rotational injuries to the head upon impact.

Lenses

The goggles have magnetic lenses that pop in  – with the right balance between ‘easily popping out after you apply a little pressure’ with ‘also not randomly popping out’. They fit securely but you can switch them out for darker or lighter lenses if need be without too much fuss. 

The SIGMA™ PHOTO magnetic lens adjusts its brightness to the conditions to intensify color contrast, is easy to switch, and fits perfectly even when worn over optical glasses.

Warmth

The helmet has a merino wool liner so it’s super warm and breathable and you can also take it out and wash it if you spill hot chocolate or your teenager with a head full of nits borrows it without asking.

Overall, I felt completely snug and warm all day long with excellent visibility, including peripheral vision and would totally recommend this for males and females of all ages.
