No Aldi Snow Sale No Drama: Decathlon Delivers More!
With inflation at 20 year highs and wages not keeping pace, Aldi picked the worst time to cancel their annual snow sale (due to supply chain issues), but there’s a great alternative for everyone trying to get to the snow on a budget, the Decathlon Snow Sale on now.
The French sporting goods/active lifestyle giant are snow specialists anyway. We used to have a French ski atlas with over 1,000 resorts listed in it for example, which was/is probably the most in the world. They love their snow sports, and so Decathlon’s snow gear has always had to stack up quality wise for the French Alps, Pyrenées and more.
“Our snow gear is designed in Chamonix Mont Blanc Valley in southeastern France, and offers the best quality at an affordable price as our mission is to make sports more accessible to more Aussies”
says Decathlon Australia, CEO, Olivier Robinet.
It’s always good value. But Decathlon’s Snow Sale features up to 50% off from now until Sunday 29 May.
“We are the world’s largest sports products designer, manufacturer and retailer and we want the entire country to know that we don’t have any issues with supply and that our snow gear is the best in the world and the most affordable” Robinet continued.
“Our annual snow sale takes place in mid-May every year and this year we will have even more stock of our wonderful ski gear, equipment and clothing to ensure no one misses out.
“As a global business, not only do we have the ability to move stock around to where it is needed, we are also airfreighting skis and toboggans into Australia in June direct from France to ensure we have plenty of winter snow gear this year – and this means our SALE this year is super amazing.
“Prices have been slashed on many products by up to 50 percent off and we will be continuing to add more products and more special prices over the course of our snow sale to make sure more people can afford to enjoy the winter season of snow, sport, recreation, fun and activities.
“Whether you ski, toboggan, or simply like playing in the snow, we have gear for everyone – all ages: ski gear, clothing, thermals and much more. Our super snow sale is awesome and we want all ALDI customers to know that they can come to us. We have your back. Or to be more precise, your snow gear!”
The sale applies to a huge range of soft goods.
Decathlon Head-to-Toe Kid’s Gear Test
OK, sounds good to us Olivier.
So Snow Action put it to the test at Decathlon’s Auburn store yesterday with my 5yo #10 grandson George. All 9 of his siblings and cousins have benefited from Aldi deck outs over the past 15 years supervised by wise old me, so we are well placed to assess the gear.
For an amazing $243 I got him sorted head to toe – helmet, goggles, reversible beanie that goes under helmet as well, neck warmer, cool jacket (well very warm actually, but George thought it looked really cool and had a minor wobbly when we told him he would have to wait to get his size sent over from the Tempe store – staff are really helpful and they can do instant stock checks for sizing issues), ski pants, thermal top and leggings (which will be great for pre-school in the meantime) and mittens. That total was actually mostly at regular prices with sale price on the ski pants and thermal bottoms. You can be thriftier than me and save more..
He couldn’t wait to get the gear on at home to show mum and dad and his big brothers and sister.
“Mum, how many nights till we go skiing?”
George demanded to know. They have one weekend booked after the School Holidays in July. Like most parents, even a single weekend at the snow is a stretch.
Which is no doubt the same for many of you. So getting the gear well ahead of time is super fun for the young ones to put it on and get excited for a few weeks in the meantime. And handy for winter wear in many cases.
Decathlon Snow Gear Range
Which is where Decathlon make it easy price wise and gear wise. They divide most gear as for OCCASIONAL or REGULAR snow goers. Pretty simple, if you are only going once or twice, no need to buy higher priced items. If you go as much as you can – hello Epic Pass holders maxing their time on snow – then it’s worth upgrading to get the durable, long lasting regular items.
That said, I love the cheap Wed’ze socks for $10. I got a pair last year and they have become my favourite winter socks, period. This from the guy who probably holds the record for Aldi ski socks purchased over past decade.
Apart from all the software clothing and accessories to suit everybody, they have a limited range of beginner/intermediate boots and skis from Salomon & Atomic at great prices. The hardware is also on sale, but not at 50%.
In June there is even more gear arriving, including Decathlon’s own brand Wed’ze skis at sensational prices – stay tuned for more on that.
