Matt Graham’s Newest Motivation

Emma Wilson 26.09.2024

What a year for Matt and Jess welcoming Ada into the world during September 2024. I caught up with Matt just before he headed up to Brisbane fine tuning his mogul tricks on the water ramp ahead of a huge Northern Hemisphere FIS season.

How’s fatherhood?

“I’m enjoying it so far. Daughter Ada was born 3 weeks ago today and she’s sleeping well enough so far. Jess is an amazing mother. I’m amazed how she just kicked into mum mode and how easily certain things have come to her. She’s a super-mum’”.

What are your plans heading into this season?

“I fly to Ruka, Finland for a training camp early to mid-November then the World Cup tour starts on November 30th and we go to Sweden, France and Georgia over the following 3 weeks in December. We have seven World Cup events before Christmas”.

That sounds very busy

“It’s the biggest World Cup tour in mogul ski history. There are 19 World Cup events  then World Championships on 20th March 2025. The Dual Mogul event is now included in the Olympics so each venue is hosting a double header each weekend”.

How will you juggle family life between now and March?

“We’ve made the decision that Jess and Ada will stay home, the World Cup schedule will be too disruptive for them (moving around frequently). Luckily I’ll get home for two weeks over Christmas as well as two weeks in February. It will be a new experience for us and going away will be harder than it has been in the past but we went into it knowing these were the circumstances, so we’ll take it as it comes”.

That’s tough for all involved

“Yes it is and luckily Jess has a lot of family support close by. In the meantime I’m just glad I can enjoy this time at home. I’m really grateful for it”.

You’re the youngest of four children, has fatherhood changed your views?

“Yes and you see other people’s children and they’re lovely but having your own hits differently and gives you a new perspective. Ada is very cute”.

A huge thank you to Matt’s sponsors getting him all the way to the next Olympics
