Jump on a plane anywhere from Australia, New Zealand or Asia and with just one stopover in the USA you’ll arrive in Salt Lake City, Utah. Just 30-40 minutes up the freeway you are in Park City and the USA’s largest snow resort consisting of 7330 acres of skiable terrain divided into 8% beginner, 42% intermediate and 50% expert terrain.

Park City Mountain is the 2nd largest snow resort in North America after Whistler Blackcomb. And staying at one of the two bases (Canyons side or the Park City mountain side) your family is in for a GREAT time with plenty to do on and off the snow.

Epic Pass Australia

Tell me about Park City!

At 45km² with 8550 full time residents, Park City is a small city in the state of Utah. Park City has a fascinating history in its own right, which makes it a great family destination for exploring after a day on snow. It was originally a mining town after silver was discovered in 1869, you can take your kids to learn all about the history in the museum on Main Street or join a skiing tour (intermediate level skiing ability needed) to see cool old mining relics all over the mountain. Park City was host to many of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games events, which meant all kinds of infrastructure was purpose-built around the region, still successfully in use today. It will be host to the 2034 Olympics so there is an air of excitement with a focus on upgrades that benefit holiday makers. Fun Fact: Park City Mountain’s Town Chairlift delivers you right into Park City’s historic Main Street.

Perfect Mix of Old and New

Park City is constantly evolving yet maintaining a strong sense of history and the historic Main Street area in particular is absolutely stunning with an old fashioned feel. With a criss-cross of streets serviced by a free public bus system, Main Street is adorned with colourful lights. You’ll find everything here from eclectic to regular stores. You can buy ski gear, big brand clothing, cute books, homewares and eat in every kind of restaurant and cafe. Park City Mountain Resort and The Canyons were previously two separate ski destinations on separate lift passes but in mid-2015 they merged to create Park City Mountain and was added to the Epic Pass. A brand new 10-person gondola will begin construction this Northern Hemisphere summer (2025), replacing the Sunrise Chairlift on the Canyons side and will take visitors from outside the Pendry Hotel right up to Red Pine Lodge. This new Sunrise Gondola will weather high winds even better than the current Red Pine Gondola and will ease the early powder-day rush.

Catering for Little Ones

Park City Mountain has a Little Adventure’s Center for children aged 6 weeks to 6 years and is located inside the Grand Summit Hotel at the Canyons side.  Morning sessions are 8.30am to 12noon and afternoon sessions are 12.30 to 4pm. You can hire bassinets (cribs), bouncers, strollers, games, toys and baby bathes from Babyquip Park City. Everything can be delivered to your accommodation so you really can jump on the plane without your baby and toddler gear.

My Epic Gear program

What an epic program! This gear membership program is available to Epic Pass holders with the convenience of travelling light, especially for travellers hopping from one Epic Pass resort to another or adding a snow holiday onto a non-snow trip. At $55 per day (save $10 per day if you BYO boots) your gear history is on record and, where possible, your boots and skis will stay consistent. This Epic Pass service is available in 12 North American resorts including Colorado for adults and kids.

Accommodation Options

There are plenty of accommodation options around Park City Mountain’s two bases that are great for kids of all ages. Many hotels have suites, which is a great option for kids so you have the option to cook breakfast, lunch or dinner if everyone is tired from skiing all day or they have food allergies or they’re too wriggly to sit in restaurants or just want to stay in pajamas and watch a movie. You can also order meals from Mountain Express Delivery, the Grocery Girls or you can get home delivery from grocery stores including Walmart, Instacart, and Amazon Fresh straight to your accommodation.

At the Canyons Village base

Choose from Yotel Pad Park City, they have a kids area and free laundry facilities, and the hotel is an easy 2-minute walk up to the Red Pine gondola with an equally easy outdoor ski valet.

The Hyatt Centric Hotel is right next to where the new 10-person gondola will be built for the 2025/2026 snow season. You can hire games or a children’s teepee camping set to keep tiny ones amused. The Pendry Park City as a more luxurious option has a children’s club with half days 9-1pm or 12-4pm or full days available. The Waldorf Astoria can organise sleigh rides, snowmobiling, snowshoe tours and trips to The Utah Olympic Park for Bobsled and Zipcord rides. The Grand Summit Hotel is ski-in ski-out with a children’s creche on the ground floor and access to the outdoors playground. The Lift Park City Hotel has dedicated children’s spaces and is an easy stroll to the new gondola.

All these hotels have lovely outdoor pools and spas and either grab-and-go food options or have multiple restaurants on-site. The Apex Residences are ski-in ski-out and right above the Red pine gondola and the ski school meeting place and many of the residences have outdoor spas on the deck.

Mountain Village base

If staying in a condo is more your family style, the Snowflower is ski-in ski-out with First Time, Three Kings and Eagle Chairlifts right outside your door. Lowell Condos are right on the free town bus shuttle route and The Lodge at the Mountain Village by All Seasons is located next to Pay Day Express and Crescent Express and an easy ski to the First Time Lift. Rug up and enjoy the outdoor ice rink, open from 12 noon to 8pm with ice skates rental available, it’s something fun to do on a day off or at night.

Getting Around

Park City mountain base and Canyons Village base are both serviced by a free shuttle bus system. You can download the Park City Transit app to help you get around. Buses run between both bases, down to Kimball Junction for dining and outlet stores and to Deer Valley Snow Resort with great options for dining.

Heber Valley

This is a growing activity hub for families particularly at Soldier Hollow, the Olympic base for Nordic skiing. Here you will find family snow tubing and an immersive Ice Castles experience, where you can walk in and around different ice constructions and ice slides bathed in lighting with a background of music.

Swim or scuba dive inside Homestead crater, naturally warmed from underground at 95 degrees (35 degrees Celsius). If you visit during the day you will drive past farms and local restaurants and cafes selling local produce, it’s a lovely valley. Don’t forget to stop at Midway Mercantile for a meal, snack or a drink, this building established in 1874 was the local grocer and supply store, converted into a local eatery and welcomes families.

Family Eats

There are plenty of places to eat as a family that accommodate children or larger groups. On the Canyons side you have Red Tail Grill, Drafts at Westgate Hotel or for Mexican there is Dos Olas Cantina. On the shuttle bus route at Kimball Junction you can eat at Park City Brewing, Red Rock Brewing Company or Italian at Bartolos. Most restaurants have kids menus.

In Park City Main Street eat at Red Banjo Pizzeria, there is a dedicated kids area downstairs with toy ‘try your luck’ machines. Top of Main Brewery is a colourful place for a meal and Bridge Café and Grill is great for breakfast and lunch and you can ride the Town Chairlift down to access it, which is a cool family experience. Maxwell’s is a great place to take your family for pizza.  The Eating Establishment  is good for breakfast, lunch, dinner or access Davanza’s on the Town Chairlift into Main Street and they will also deliver meals to accommodation as long as it is in Park City and not on the Canyons base side.

The Mountain Village base of Park City Mountain Resort is better placed for breakfast and lunch spots than going out for dinner but is very close to the downtown area of Main Street as well as the Prospector area. In the Prospector area, Versante is located in Park City Peaks Hotel and has great food and is popular with locals. Fuego is great Italian and has home delivery and Park City Roadhouse is great. Grub Steak has a real Western vibe and good steak and seafood with cowboy singer entertainment on the weekends.

Family requiring Disabled Travel

At the base of the Park City mountain side is the fabulous National Abilities Center (NAC). Celebrating 45 years in 2025, this is the mecca for adaptive equipment, instructors, programs and all things disabled snow travel. Get in touch to discover how the NAC can support your family to give you all access to the mountain and a great time on snow. The Epic Pass has a special discounted Adaptive pass to get everyone out on the slopes. Check out the requirements here.
