Dahu Ski Boots in Australia! Comfort you won't believe

snow action team 15.05.2021

At last the wait is over Dahu ski boots are available in Australia so local skiers can discover the comfort and convenience of Dahu’s award winning ‘two-in-one’ soft snow boot inner and cabrio outer outer shell.

If you’ve been paying attention, you would have read here that the search for skiing’s Holy Grail, ie comfortable easy to get on/off ski boots that also perform, has been achieved.

Now that winning combo will be in Aussie ski stores from the first week in June at Gravity Thredbo and STM in Bondi Junction and Auski Melbourne. You can also check them out at the Snow Travel Expo Sunday May 16 in Melbourne.

Swiss innovators Dahu solved the problem like no one else had ever done with their cabrio exo-skeleton shell plus soft snowboard style inner boot combo that launched to critical and public acclaim 5 years back.

Google soft ski boots and you’ll find our review and road test story on them still top of the list. Tens of thousands of hits later, it’s all essentially still true.

But better! The company was purchased in 2019 by American investors, who pumped in the funds to take it next level, with improved exo-skeleton outer boots and tweaked inner boots.

Flash forward to 2021 and Dahu has landed in Australia, available in a couple of great ski stores.

Dahu Ecorce Pro 01 Model

For anyone who works in the snow and is in and out of their ski boots through the day (or night!) – from instructors to patrollers to snow journos like me – the Ecorce Pro Model is a total no brainer.

When mine arrived I put them straight on to get a couple of snaps you see here, and compare the flex and other features to my existing 2018-19 model Dahus. A few hours later I was still sitting in my chilly (gotta get firewood!) Belconnen office with snugly warm feet comfortably encased in the inners.

If I was actually at the snow I could scoot out and walk around in them, to do anything I didn’t need my outer ski boots for outside. Then stamp snow out on the mat and head back inside. The system proved super useful in Japan – I even rode the shinkansen in my inners

When you want to ski, you just step into the cabriolet outer shell (I usually tap the toe in), snap lock the back in upright position, clip down the two micro adjustable buckles and tighten the velcro power strap to suit. Too easy!

In reverse just pop the lock button, unclip and pull out. I find it easiest to just hold the open heel down with my other foot to step out – the set up is designed to hold you in a snug, tight fit inside the outer shell, there is no movement).

Or if you’re driving to the snow, likewise drive up in your inners. Arrive totally warm and snug to the carpark, and clip in when you get there. Dahu’s come with a carry strap for the outers.

My 2018/19 Monsieur Ed Dahus are 120 flex, which was great in deep powder in Japan at Tenji and other places, and fine skiing locally here. The new Ecorce 120M and 90W models coming down under are also fine for the majority of skiers.

I am stoked to get the latest Dahu 01 Pro Model, with a 135 flex. The Pro Model has a bit higher inner/snow boot which works for the likes of coaches setting race courses etc walking and standing around a lot in snow. Or taking shots in my case. They have been super popular with instructors and other on-snow professionals since appearing in Europe.

Dahu’s Australian importer Dave Tweedie loves nothing more than going for a hike out back of his Thredbo winter base, and he strongly recommended getting the optional Grip Walk pack for that – which is another improvement. We’ll be out with Dave in a few weeks to file some live reports on how they work.
