Growing up as a ski instructor, Brendan Reeves became fascinated with finding the undiscovered treasures on the mountain and began to document it through the digital diary of his camera. His love for skiing sparked his career in photography drawing audiences into an image that makes them feel a part of the experience.

“It began just as a side hobby until I bought my first camera and started experimenting with it and now I have begun to love photography more than skiing”.

Whilst navigating through trees and thick powder snow, Brendan is able to find the perfect spots that hold the light and magic within his single frame,

“Generally if you venture in through the trees there is always something new to be found, and the unpredictable snowfall always adds to the shot”.

His extensive experience and connection on the mountain is translated through his images as he invites you into the intimate relationships of all living organisms coexisting on the mountain, giving you a deeper appreciation for its true beauty. With the ever changing tempo of the snowy mountains his experience has allowed him to adapt by harnessing a deeper instinctual compass that guides him to locate new alcoves to capture.

Snow photography inevitably comes with many challenges and uncertainty as nature has a mind of its own, changing its form very quickly and creating more obstacles to adapt to.

Just like in society, change can happen so quickly. One of Brendan’s biggest discoveries and learning throughout his career is to embrace the change and often you will find something special that you couldn’t see before.

“There’s always something changing so you have to just work with it and embrace it”.

Rain, hail or shine Brendan is always exploring the mountain and new areas of learning, seeking to capture different perspectives. His photos are a lens that allows us to explore the depths of Japan’s mountains through his eyes. Sharing the places and experiences which the average skier can’t usually reach or find. He encourages people to go discover and try everything as that is when the magic happens.
