How Do AARN Backpacks Really Stack Up?

A backcountry backpack that packs a punch!

Emma Wilson 09.09.2025

I tested the AARN Natural Exhilaration U Flow pack over the course of a week down at the Snowies on a family trip. I carried the pack in a variety of scenarios, from a snow shoeing day out with a mate out at Porcupine Rocks and the tracks east of Perisher to loading in and out of the car filled with kids gear, family gear and picnic food and drinks.

Who is the AARN Natural Exhilaration U Flow For?

The Natural Exhilaration U Flow is designed for outdoor enthusiasts who want a lightweight yet supportive pack that can handle both smaller day trips and multi day adventures. Its 33-36L capacity and 14kg load rating make it ideal for hikers, snowshoers, and backcountry explorers who need space for extra layers, food, and technical gear without feeling weighed down.

Because of its ergonomic harness system and Active X-Frame back panel, it’s particularly well suited to those who value comfort and body alignment, runners or hikers with back, hip, or knee sensitivities will notice the difference in reduced fatigue and improved balance.

With multiple pockets, hydration compatibility, and trekking pole/ice axe attachments, this pack is also a great fit for anyone who likes to keep their gear organized and accessible on the go.

Features of the AARN Natural Exhiliration Backpack

Superlight

I was surprised by the ‘lack of weight’ . Less than 1kg when empty, this pack will take a maximum of 14kg and takes 32L in the main body and you really notice it after using a slew of much ‘heavier when empty’ backpacks over the past twenty years. Incredible technology meets innovation meets generally thoughtful design.

Internally lined

With a velcro strap sealing the top of the pack, I didn’t need to line the inside with another plastic bag, which has been a habit in the past. I carried things prone to spilling, like olives, juice, cheese and dips. I took my chances and was ready to clean up any potential spills but the material inside only needed a brief hot cloth wipe and any tiny spills were cleaned off, including oily bits.

Lots of external pockets

I liked that there are lots of ‘open’ pouch-like areas that I could throw in beef jerky, snacks, tissues, ear phones (my cheap little white ones that I can risk hanging out in an external pocket) and little things I needed to grab quickly and don’t need the hassle of locking away, like lip balm and sunnies.

Reinforced support

The reinforced straps around the waist took a load off my back – literally. I see a chiropractor every fortnight because my body is compensating for my knee injury, protecting my knee results in recurring neck and back issues but the cushioned strap around my hips helped keep the weight in the pack in check. I liked that it was very reinforced and cushiony, some hip straps can tend to be a bit inadequate. The shoulder straps were super-spongy and comfortable, very, very adequate.

What I didn’t like about the AARN Natural Exhilaration

Nothing really so far. I haven’t tested it out with a sleeping bag and tent for longer than a daytrip but I will report back when I do so. Planning a multi-day trip in early 2026 so stay tuned.
