Thredbo is calling the 2022 LWE their best opening ever after 125cm of natural snow fall plus lots of snowmaking in the week prior to opening.
Our little birdie on the ground said there were hardly any queues either on Saturday – the roads got shut at the park gate after the car parks filled so it was be there or miss out. Weekends of course will be busy from now on but get up midweek and grab midwinter snow conditions if you can NOW..
Here’s Thredbo’s take on their big weekend:
Australia’s premier alpine destination officially opened to skiers and snowboarders on Saturday, showcasing some of the best conditions that Thredbo has seen on an opening weekend to date.
- Thredbo Resort officially opened to skiers and snowboarders on Saturday 11 June, with its 2022 Winter Olympic Ambassadors leading guests on the first run down the mountain.
- There was 125cm of fresh snow in the week leading up to opening weekend, resulting in the best season start in decades.
- All major resort areas were open on Saturday for guests to enjoy Australia’s longest runs before celebrating with a massive calendar of events and entertainment.
Thanks to a huge early season snowfall and a massive range of events and entertainment, Thredbo Resort celebrated its best ever start to the snow season. Officially opened to skiers and snowboarders on Saturday 11 June, guests were able to enjoy the best of Thredbo’s terrain including Australia’s longest runs.
Thredbo’s impressive crew of 2022 Winter Olympic Ambassadors got the first tracks down the mountain, with Tess Coady, Valentino Guseli, Ben Tudhope, Jarryd Hughes, Josie Baff and Abi Harrigan all meeting and skiing with guests to show them how it’s done.
However, the action didn’t stop on the mountain, with Thredbo’s opening weekend also marking the start to Thredbo’s biggest ever events and entertainment calendar planned throughout the winter, featuring live entertainment and après events, kid’s festivals and a series of unique on-mountain experiences.
Highlight events from the opening weekend included a Welcome Home To Thredbo’s Winter Olympians, Illuminations & Fireworks Spectacular, Ice Carvings, and Heineken Saturday ft. Set Mo at the Alpine Bar.
Caroline Brauer, Thredbo Resort Marketing Manager, said “The snow cover was as good as it gets here in Thredbo for our opening weekend. We don’t usually see conditions like this until July or August.”
“After a challenging couple of years for the resort and its businesses, this is exactly the way we wanted to welcome everyone back to the resort to remember just how magical our mountains are.”
“Thredbo is officially back in action. We couldn’t be happier, not only with the excellent conditions, but also being able to offer our guests the biggest events and entertainment calendar yet,” said Ms Brauer.
With the successful opening weekend now wrapped, Thredbo Resort is excited to continue welcoming its guests back to enjoy what is shaping up to be one of the best seasons ever.
