Tahoe and Mammoth hit by stay home orders

snow action team 11.12.2020

All the Californian Lake Tahoe area ski resorts and Mammoth are hit by the latest California Stay Home Orders, which are triggered by the percentage of available ICU hospital beds available in counties dropping below 15%.

Outdoor recreation is still permitted, so the ski areas can remain open if they choose to do so, but people from outside the area should not visit them.

The details and links for full restrictions on California Government site are highlighted below.

The season is off to a slow snow start anyway, with most areas still closed, so at least you don’t have to sit in LA watching dump reports come in like everyone is doing in Italy and Austria right now where near all-time December dumps have hit the likes of Livigno.

For example, Heavenly today says “Comet Express chairlift will open with Comet trail planned for Saturday. We’re aiming for Dec. 18 to open the Stagecoach Lodge base area. Lodging will only be available to critical infrastructure support. You will be contacted if your lodging stay falls within the period of the current order, and no reservations can be made during this time. On-mountain takeout food options will be available and are permitted by the State. There will continue to be no indoor seating and we encourage you to bring your own water, food and snacks.”

Mammoth has 9 lifts of 25 and 17 of 163 trails open.

California Stay home Restrictions

“The Regional Stay Home Order (PDF), announced December 3, 2020, and a supplemental order, signed December 6, 2020, will go into effect at 11:59 PM the day after a region has been announced to have less than 15% ICU availability. The supplemental order clarifies retail operations and goes into effect immediately. They prohibit private gatherings of any size, close sector operations except for critical infrastructure and retail, and require 100% masking and physical distancing in all others.

Once triggered, these orders will remain in effect for at least 3 weeks. After that period, they will be lifted when a region’s projected ICU capacity meets or exceeds 15%. This will be assessed on a weekly basis after the initial 3 week period.”
