Spring skiing in the USA is always something to look forward to as soon as the bullwheels start turning in November. The joy of skiing in a t-shirt atop food-inspired spring snow descriptors (corn, cream cheese, mashed potatoes) and sunsets past 7pm give fresh motivation to play on snow. Skiers and riders flock to sun-drenched corners of the mountains for live music, libations, and a little lightheartedness. Costumes and themed parties become the norm for all ages as we cross the proverbial pond (skim) to the other side of ski season.
Here’s what’s happening across the USA in case you can fit one last trip in …!
Boyne Mountain, Michigan
When you think of skiing in May, you think of Michigan, right? Maybe not, but you should. The resort’s Victor Glacier terrain will keep the ski season going through May. The spring calendar opens March 14 with Air & Après, a high-energy competition featuring Olympic and X Games athletes launching aerial tricks off a jump flanked by large-format motion graphics. The regular season closes out with Carnival Weekend, anchored by the spectacle and splashes of the Slush Cup on March 22.
Open through May, as long as the Victor Glacier holds on!
Big Sky Resort, Montana
Big Sky brings its Spring Series back to The Bowl, one of the mountain’s most dramatic venues, every Saturday in April, hosting world-class musical acts at 9,000 feet. The format pairs spring skiing with live concerts in a setting that’s hard to replicate anywhere else. Pond Skim returns April 11, with prizes for best costume, biggest splash, and best trick.

Open through April 26; Friday – Sunday only from April 17-26
Pleasant Mountain, Maine
Pleasant Mountain hosts the hilarious and creative Mattress Race (March 14), challenging participants to design and race a decorated mattress down a set course, with prizes for speed and creativity under this year’s “Lumberjack Lap” theme. Spring Fling on March 21 features the Slush Cup, a 100-foot pond skim open for the first 100 riders to skim… or swim.
Open through April 5; weekends only starting late March
Sunday River, Maine
From April 3-5, Sunday River hosts Bust ‘N’ Burn, a mogul competition on Monday Mourning run that draws serious competitors and crowds alike. Athletes are scored on both time and style across Junior, Open, and Dual Moguls divisions, with Maine’s finest athlete, Donny Pelletier, as emcee. As Donny said: “Should be friggin’ mint.”
Open through April 19; weekends only after April 5
Sugarloaf, Maine
Sugarloaf closes out its 75th anniversary season with live music après-ski in the legendary Widowmaker Bar and the Spring DJ Series each Saturday in March and April on the beach and mid-mountain Bullwinkle’s Deck. The season caps off with the 38th Annual Reggae Fest (April 10–12), the largest on-snow music event in New England, regularly drawing upward of 10,000 attendees over the weekend, followed by the Pond Skim Championships on Saturday, April 18, and a Passholder BBQ on Sunday, April 19.
Open through April 26
Loon Mountain Resort, New Hampshire
Loon’s Last Call with Eastern Boarder goes down March 23 with a $20,000 cash purse on the line. As the longest-running snowboard competition in the East, the event draws top-tier riders and an energetic crowd for a high-caliber, spectator-friendly showdown. Then on March 28, Loon’s beloved ‘80s Day takes over the resort with an all-mountain throwback party, highlighted by a live, 21+ concert inside the Kancamagus 8, plus themed activities and retro-inspired fun throughout the day.
Open through April 19
Brighton Resort, Utah
Brighton’s Bomb Hole Cup (March 28–29) is a celebration of snowboarding in its truest form: creative, laid-back, and rooted in community. Pride Ride Utah on April 4 supports inclusivity on the slopes and a local nonprofit. The season extends into May with The Meltdown, a limited-operation stretch dedicated to terrain park skiing and riding – jump lines, rails, and side hits – designed for those who aren’t quite ready to put the season to bed.
Open through May, as long as the snow holds on!
The Highlands, Michigan
The Highlands is staging a truly unique multi-sport day: Swing & Slide, an inaugural snow golf tournament played across five holes while simultaneously skiing down to the base area, with tee-off starting from a summit overlooking Little Traverse Bay. Competitors use two clubs to navigate each hole while managing their descent, which is either a test of multitasking or a very good excuse for a bad score.
Open through March 22
Cypress Mountain, British Columbia
Cypress closes its season with the Slush Cup, a 70-foot pond-skim finale with an annual theme revealed closer to the event. For those who want to keep their boots dry, a live DJ, BBQ, and drinks are served on the Three Peaks Patio all afternoon long.
Open through April 12
The Summit at Snoqualmie | Alpental, Washington
The Summit is bringing competitive park skiing and riding with the Sundown Showdown rail jam on March 6. On March 7, the Summit hosts Spreefest, the signature annual fundraiser for Outdoors For All, a nonprofit dedicated to connecting children and adults with disabilities to outdoor recreation. The day includes adaptive skiing demos, live music, a beer garden, a fun slalom course, and a raffle.
Open through April, conditions permitting
