Ski of the day: Black Diamond Megawatt Carbon
New lighter carbon fiber enhanced touring version of Black Diamond’s popular Megawatt pow beasts, these weigh in at 4.2kg a pair @188cm – not bad for a ski with a surf it all shape and fat rocker nose. Big line charging skiers will enjoy these to the max expending less effort on the journey out there.
Tim Macartney-Snape (mountaineering legend and hell-for-leather tele skier, who is also the BD importer for Australia) took them for a test drive while guiding back-country for John Morrell’s Journey Into Japan BC trips in Hokkaido this February and was more than impressed.
“My new Black Diamond Carbon Megawatt skis are like wings on my feet – point them down anything powdery and they float and bounce effortlessly, on piste they hold an edge pretty well for their fatness! No matter how deep the snow these boards keep popping out so your speed stays up and the reverse camber makes them surprisingly nimble. They are perfect for deep powder skiing in trees.”

Snow Action caught up with Tim last year in Hokkaido, on the Megawatts – he rates the carbon version even better.
