Australia’s Paralympic winter athletes gathered in style at Sydney’s Admiralty House for the official unveiling of the team uniforms ahead of Milano Cortina 2026. With the Harbour glinting in the background and Her Excellency the Governor-General in attendance, the occasion marked the first and only time the full team will come together before heading overseas. We spoke to Matt Brumby about the pride, preparation, and meaning behind the new kit.
DW: I’m here with Matt Brumby, representing Biathlon Australia at the Paralympics Australia winter games uniform launch at the spectacular Admiralty House overlooking Sydney Harbour.
So how do you feel about the uniforms, mate?
MB: It’s amazing and it’s such a beautiful day. We’re well represented by the team, and especially by the GG, her Excellency, and the team from PA doing their stuff. This is going to be the first and last time that we’re altogether as a team before we go to Milano. We’ve had great support from BA and all the organisations. It’ just such a beautiful day, so it’s always amazing wearing the green and gold buddy.

DW: And you like the styling of the uniforms?
MB: Love the styling of the uniforms. I think they’ve done really well, and putting the Aboriginal culture in our Australian kit is a good thing – it looks good. We’ve got some great coats for our dogs as well. I think we’re all just looking forward for the season to start.
DW: And it’s definitely going to be warm enough for you when you’re over in Milano Cortina?.

MB: I reckon they’ve got some good gear here. I was lucky enough to wear the summer stuff today on this beautiful day we’ve got here.
But I’m looking forward to getting into the real kit.
DW: How are your preparation’s going?
MB: Yeah, amazing. it’s been really good working with BA and SASI, and the south Australian sports institute, so yeah, I get to go there 3 days a week and then I do 2 other days there, with the laser rifle and shooting and ski yurging. It’s probably been the best six or seven weeks in the last 3 years I’ve had solid training. I’ve got a really good program, everything’s coming together.
DW: And you’re looking forward to Canmore?
MB: Canmore’s going to be great. First start of the season with the whole team going to be there, as well as Lauren our newbie coming along. I think it’s a really good chance for the Australian team to get some really good points on the board and trying to get in the next couple of slots.
DW: Yeah, perfect, right? Thanks, mate. Appreciate you.
