Luci Outdoor 2.0 Pro Solar Light and Charger Test

snow action team 03.11.2020

On my last overnight trip into the mountains for the season I had a chance to take out a the Luci Outdoor 2.0 Pro Solar Light, a cool little solar light that also serves as a phone charger.

I spend so much time on my phone working or wasting time that it seems to be on low power mode all the time.

My last over night trip into the mountains I had a chance to take out a little solar light that also served as a phone charger.

My first thought was rad, it’s super light weight so that’s a good thing. It has ten LED bulbs so it’s got to be bright.

I was nervous when I read the box saying “Top up most smartphones 30-50%” but I need my phone to be fully charged.

I started out with a full charge in the light, and of course by the time tent was set and we were ready to crash out my phone was near dead as well.

Inside the tent the light was awesome. We blew up the light (yes these are like an inflatable lantern!) and on the highest setting it was so bright in the tent we both could read and do everything we needed. We set it on lowest thinking let’s save the battery and get a phone charged for the next day. Kinda important as one of our phones was needed as the screen for the drone.

With the light off and my phone still charging we drifted off with high hopes. Upon waking up my phone was pretty much charged for the day.

As soon as the sun was out I had the light out charging back up but I was a bit disappointed that the “adjustable” strap still covered some of the solar panel. My thought would be trying to get as much of that panel into the sun.

I strapped it to the top lid of my pack while we were skinning to start getting the charge pumping back into it and as soon as we were stopped at our next break spot I had my phone plugged back in and charging.

Over all I was really stoked with the light. It was very light weight (156g), took up very little space in my pack (12.5 x 3.8 cm) and I did manage to keep my phone going for my whole trip. For just $64.99 this is a great little light to take on any overnight trip.

Luci claim it charges up in as little as 2 hours with the USB charger, with a claimed 50 hours of use from a full charge, and it certainly tops up easily on solar when you’re out there. A very handy item to have. – Steve Leeder
