Keep It Real: Big White Offers 100% Natural Snow

snow action team 10.12.2021

Sure, snowmaking is better then nothing and essential most places around the ski World these days – but not at Big White, where they keep it real with 100% natural snow.

Check out these awesome pow shots from yesterday, December 9.

When they say “It’s the snow!” they mean it. Apart from the boarder cross track they run entirely on natural snowfall.

With an alpine base of one meter already, the resort is opening more and more lifts, and with them, more and more runs.

This week, the Ridge Rocket Express Chairlift started spinning, with the aptly named Powder Chair and Alpine T-Bar following suit on December 10.

You can stay up-to-date on snowfall, run count, groomed runs, lift status and more by signing up for Big White’s Daily Snow Report.

“At Big White, we rely 100% on mother nature for our snow, so even though we’re technically in ‘early season conditions,’ the snow is better than most places around the world!”

says Michael J. Ballingall, Senior Vice President at Big White Ski Resort Ltd.

Due to the unique climate of the Okanagan – the region in British Columbia where Big White is located – the snow that falls is bone-dry, fluffy, and extra forgiving. In fact, the locals fondly refer to it as “Okanagan Champagne Powder,” due to its effervescent qualities.

Launching this Friday evening is the Big White Mega Snow Coaster – five specially-groomed lanes serviced by a magic carpet, so thrill seekers of all ages can continue the fun on the slopes after the lifts close. The beginner’s area in Happy Valley will also open up to the newest and littlest shredders, with three magic carpets.

Big White Central Reservations is currently taking bookings from Australian guests starting January 3. By then the resort usually has a snow base of 160cm-200cm, with overnight snowfalls of over 10cm happening regularly, and with every lift spinning and all runs open. Being home to Canada’s second largest lifting system, shuttling 28,700 skiers up the mountain every hour, first tracks are never hard to come by.

Book four nights with Central Reservations today and get five! Book eight, get 10! You get it. You can find more information here.
