Snow Safety Australia’s Adam West has a nack for creating communities and making the lives of others richer. With a strong connection with India’s Gulmarg region, Adam has made a huge impact in their snow community there in the 8 years he’s been interacting with the locals and heading into the Gulmarg mountainous backcountry.
Adam (Mr Snow Safety) wasn’t always a snow specialist. Growing up on Sydney’s Northern Beaches and attending the beachside high school, Cromer High he surfed regularly and started shaped surfboards in his garage in his spare time. On a snow trip to Canada in his 20s, Adam saw splitboards for the first time and started making splitboards in the FirstLight Surfboards factory. FirstlightSnowboards, a Splitboard manufacturing / importing business was spawned, running it for 11 until selling it to Rhythm Sports.
In 2015 Adam moved his young family to Jindabyne full time and founded Snow Safety Australia and Avalanche Australia running services such as certified Avalanche Canada courses and professional forecasting to keep Australians safe in the backcountry.

His first trip to India was a trip to Kashmir where he trained local Kashmiri guides and the local ski patrol. His training has made a significant impact to the safety of India’s snow industry, training 50 to 60 locals annually. Beacons For Kashmir is an initiative of Adams, where Aussie backcountry skiers and snowboarders can drop off outdated but usable Avalanche equipment at drop offs in Sydney, ACT, Melbourne, Cooma and Jindabyne with incentives such as free membership to Avalanche Australia.
