Do your fingers and toes get cold in the snow?

Emma Wilson 16.05.2025

Having freezing cold fingers and toes has got to be one of the most frustrating things in the snow. It can prematurely end your day even if every other condition out there is fantastic. This is where technology comes into play. Lenz is the world’s number one brand for heated products and in fact is the inventor of the heated sock.

The Heated Sock

No more freezing toes. The Lenz heating system is brilliant in its simplicity and there are two versions to choose from. Version 5.1 heats your toe around the toe box with a hard-wearing heating element sewn into the toe box, allowing the lithium battery to be snapped on for heating and snapped off when not in use and socks are easy to machine wash. 30% polyester, 25% merino wool and 20% polyamide, 15% poly acrylic, 5% silk, 5% elastine.

Version 6.1 is a more tight fitting, compression-style sock with the same heating element. This version is useful for more snug-fitting boots. 55% polyamide, 35% merino wool, 10% elastine.

The Heated Glove

Why not control the temperature where you feel it most – and that includes finger tips. Lenz glove heating comes in two options, 6.0 Finger cap glove or mitten or 8.0 Lobster mitten. In version 6.0 Finger cap glove or mitten the heating element winds around the finger area of the glove/ mitten and comes in a mens, ladies and unisex mitten leather glove with a four-way stretch with PrimaLoft and Hippora and even with a fluffy interior has breathability and waterproofing.

In the version 8.0 Lobster mitten, the thumb and index fingers are separated from the three other fingers ‘lobster style’. In this version the heated liner is removable. In both models they come with hand loops so they don’t join the glove graveyard under the chairlifts if you accidentally drop one.

How do you choose a battery?

The choice of how hot and for how long you heat your socks  and gloves is entirely in your hands with three battery options of 1200, 1800 and a 2000 lithium battery pack. As a general guide 1200 is sufficient  heating power for 7 hours of skiing or snowboarding on the middle setting but as you ski or ride in higher elevation the colder the atmosphere. The heating element in the gloves is bigger than in the socks and the latest battery 2000 comes with a charging cradle and three speeds  – regular, super fast charge and a storage charge to 50% . Whichever battery you choose, all batteries are connectable with the Lenz app, which is downloadable for free and means you can adjust the temperature setting in a gondola or mid-mountain if you feel cold or too warm. The app gives you 9 different settings to play with, you can turn the heat off and on or increase the left or right side – for example .
