Asado in the Snow: A Falls Creek Feast for Steve Lee

Snow Action 03.09.2025

Falls Creek, the epicentre of culinary creativity in the Australian Alps and home to the ultimate mountain village food scene, sets the stage for a spectacular alpine dining experience, Asado in the Snow.

Asado is the age-old tradition of fire and coal roasting. A theatrical style of cooking where flames, smoke, and glowing embers transform food into an experience. At Falls Creek, this tradition comes alive in the snow, as Chef John Verano harnesses wood, coals, and fire to prepare his famous Portuguese Chicken, alongside fire-roasted vegetables and fruits. The sight, sound, and aroma of roasting over open flames against the alpine backdrop creates a true feast for the senses.

This celebration honours Steve Lee, Australian alpine ski racing legend, three-time Winter Olympian, and Falls Creek local, as he continues his inspiring recovery following a stroke in 2020. It’s also a nod to his personal history, with Portuguese Chicken being one of his all-time favourite dishes shared with Chef John during snow seasons in Hakuba, Japan.

Hosted at the iconic Chophouse, perched proudly on its village corner, this event is more than a meal, it’s a communal gathering. Guests will share stories, drizzle fresh chimichurri over flame-roasted chicken, sip local wines, beers, and cocktails, and experience the warmth of community spirit in the snow.

Asado in the Snow is proudly brought to you by SnowChef, with support from The Chophouse, Falls Creek Resort, First Fall Films, Snow Action, and Wolf of the Willows.

This not-for-profit event is dedicated to raising awareness for mental health and men’s health, offering inspiration to those who have faced stroke or similar challenges. All proceeds will be donated to a charity of Steve Lee’s choice, ensuring his journey continues to motivate and uplift others.
