ARC’TERYX WINTER FILM TOUR

Emma 07.04.2024

Get ready for the launch of the Arc’teryx Winter Film Tour 2024 Showing two incredible local ski films, Maven & Convergence

We all have a choice—do we take what we’re given, or create something better? Stick to the flats, or take the steep trail? Follow the routine, or feel alive?

Time in the mountains often takes you beneath the surface of what it means to be alive. Deep connections are forged and life long memories are etched into the mind. Conceived deep in the mountains of British Columbia and now travelling the world, the Arc’teryx Winter Film Tour shares films of uncommon journeys in the mountains, because everyone’s path is different, and the protagonists in each story surprised and inspired us. Join us as we celebrate the value of an uncommon journey and a life well lived in the detour and share stories from local film makers Divya Gordon and Taylor Bennie-Faull.

The two local short films: Maven and Convergence, set in documentary style, showcase local talent exploring the mountains both at home and abroad. With a focus on capturing the perspectives of the people who call the mountains home and the mental processes athletes go through exploring their own boundaries in the backcountry.

This tour will venture into the Australian mountains during the heart of winter to share these stories with the core mountain communities. Join us for a night of great entertainment including Q&A sessions with the film crew and athletes as we join in celebration of the Australian mountain community.

Convergence Film Overview

Exploring the world gives us a glimpse into the lives of others and the places they inhabit. Something unique to ski towns is this palpable feeling of connection formed through special experiences in the mountains. It  isn’t until you spend time in these communities and  observe how people live and relate to their natural surroundings, that you start unveiling nuances of these people and places.

Travelling through the mountains of British Columbia, you witness the backyard jibs, timber mills, public artworks, and hooting and hollering on the ski hill. Convergence is a vignette of these places and the individuals that breathe life into them.

A film by Taylor Bennie-Faull starring Coen Bennie-Faul and friends. Sound by Callum Kenihan.

Maven Film Overview

MAVEN: def. ‘one who understands.’

MAVEN is a short documentary set out on the rough and rugged Main Range of the Kosciuszko National Park in NSW,  Australia. This film, directed and shot by Divya Gordon, features athlete Chess Smee as well as members of an adventurous alpine community. It captures a different perspective on exploration, both of the backcountry and of oneself. Proudly supported by Arc’teryx and Nikon. This film is not about fresh tracks. It’s a deeper exploration of resilience, community, and environmental awareness.

Chess, our guide and athlete ticks off her objectives for the season which includes scaling Australia’s 11 highest peaks in a single day. Her energy and drive for adventure is contagious and through her eyes we get to meet other members of the women’s backcountry community in the Australian Alps. The film follows a smaller team as they journey to the Kosciuszko National Park’s most remote hut.

Starring Chess Smee, Divya Gordon, Leah Foster, Kate Alice, Justine Anne, Mariah Dhar, Jannaya Ashelford , Alex Parson and Mimi Gee
