Advancers Skiers Apply Here, KAMUI JAPAN

Emma Wilson 03.03.2025

Based out of Asahikawa in Hokkaido, the Rookies run Advanced ski camps during the Northern hemi winter at Kamui Ski Links. It’s a fun week and provides a skiing focus to the week. Being based out of Asahikawa city means you can explore the city at night and see the Ice Sculptures, go to an onsen, restaurant or bar or do some shopping in Hokkaido’s vibrant second largest city. Emma Simons joined the group this February and here’s what she discovered…

“Despite my day one nerves even as a second-time Rookie attendee, I was quickly at ease with the warm trainers and friendly group. We headed up the gondola for a few easy runs to find our feet and then trainers grouped us by level and focus area.

In my group, our trainer, Sam, focused the first 2 days of the camp on technique. He gave a lot of individual coaching and everyone had different focus areas through the drills. I had a few great wins and my confidence built. In the evenings, as everyone was staying in Asahikawa, we gathered together for dinner, drinks and lots of laughs, making the experience feel like a true holiday.

On the mountain, Sam progressively pushed me out of my comfort zone and as my technique improved, so did my confidence. By Friday we had two first-time achievements for me – my short turns and tree skiing. I left the camp feeling triumphant! I couldn’t believe how much my skiing has improved.  I’m excited to build on this progression again in the Wanaka camps later in the year – I guess I’ll be a third time Rookie attendee, and I can’t wait!”

Rookies are running Advanced camps next season in Kamui, Kiroro, Rusutsu and Nozawa Onsen, click here for more info and bookings.
