The Communal Lounge is a huge hit – the spacious open living area on the ground floor offers plenty of opportunity to relax, meet new people and chill out over a coffee or beer, especially round the fireplace when it’s dropping another metre or so of snow overnight outside!
Nozawa Onsen has exploded in popularity in recent years – on our worldwide reader survey of favourite destinations 2 years back it was almost level with Hakuba at number 3 after Niseko and Whistler! With limited accommodation in the historic onsen town from Xmas to the end of February fills up fast, so early bookings are highly advisable for the peak winter season.
Locals swear by the great spring skiing and riding too, with March and April delivering some powder days and lots of great corn snow as well, so consider those months as alternatives.
