Hoshino Resorts Tomamu is on a mission to be Japan’s number one family ski resort, and along with the new Club Med opening there this season they have added what’s billed as “Japan’s first ski-in/ ski-out shopping precinct”.
Hotalu Street (the name means firefly) runs for 160m of easy gradient, offering 9 specialty shops and restaurants all connected by a wooden deck promenade. Ski or snowboard right in and after enjoying a bite to eat and some shopping you can easily head straight back out onto the slopes.
It’s also easily accessible to those not skiing or snowboarding as it is located only a 5-minute walk from Tomamu The Tower and RISONARE Tomamu.
Among the 9 stores will be Hoshino Resorts first ever ‘tukino’ cafe & bar and ‘yukino’ sweets. There will also be a ramen noodle shop and a rice bowl restaurant. Cafe & Bar ‘tukino’ will offer not only coffee but also drinks made from Hokkaido’s famous local milk such as the ‘Buttermilk Latte’ as well as alcoholic beverages. Sweets ‘yukino’ will offer a variety of 15 original ‘Coupe’ sweets. Coupe is the French word for a type of dish in which desserts are served. At Tomamu, desserts are sold in cylindrical containers measuring 5cm in diameter and 8cm in height, filled with cream and delicious fruits such as honeyberry and melon. You can either take it home as a souvenir or sit and enjoy it by the fireplace on the wood deck outside the store, a great way to relax and enjoy the beautiful winter scenery.
It will be a great addition to Tomamu’s existing restaurant complex where you can get some great value meals – our favourite was the pizza.
