We told you late season was a good bet at Valle Nevado

This is what we said back in the July Travel bible issue “September can be all over red rover a lot of places in the Southern Hemisphere, but seasonal variations aside altitude (higher) and latitude (lower) are your best guide to where will likely still be good. And where the top alpine ski teams are training. we bumped into the French twice in Chile, at Corralco early September and Valle Nevado, where the hotels are 3000m up, a couple of weeks later. still firm and fast for them, and with help from local Aussie Ash Dwyer we still found south facing pow lines. That was 2014, a lean season for the Andes. If el niño does the business it could be cranking here in october, and the deals run to 50% off.”
Guess what? They just extended the season to 18 October – still time to hop a plane and get there, though mostly you’ll be better off getting on Qantas early bird flight deals to Santiago for next winter. After a late start – almost no snow to mid-July, it dumped massively late July and has been awesome since and still going. So El Niño kicked in, late but big time.
