No question, Niseko is back on a roll after the GFC and Tsunami year interruptions to the growth trajectory. Real key to this has been the explosion in international interest – from Thailand to Finland, people from all over are discovering the resort powder capital of the planet, and the relative number of Aussies is going down.
Most exciting news on the property front this season was the new Ki Niseko Hotel opening up offering true ski in/ski out right next to the Hirafu gondola. Offering hotel rooms through apartments to a magnificent penthouse, it has raised the bar in quality and location.
Their An Dining restaurant brings people out from as far as Sapporo just to dine.
Staying there our favourite was the spacious private onsens, which we never had any trouble booking – though their his & hers onsens are also great.
The Ski valet service makes it easy to hit the slopes as often as you like, day or night – after a day working (yes, we do actually do some of that round here!) it was great to get out night skiing.
Apart from the Gondola the aptly named Gondola Snow Sports is right there too to sort all your and your kids ski school needs.
After a highly successful debut season demand will be up for next year, so even more reason to get in early and take advantage of their 10% to 30% off all rooms deal if you book before 1 May 2015 – details www.kiniseko.com
