The world’s biggest sports retailer, French brand Decathlon, has opened it’s 5th Australian mega store in Moorabbin, Victoria. With over 1,600 stores across 50+ countries they certainly a force to be reckoned with.
Eager punters packed the huge warehouse style retailer looking to snap up pre-Christmas bargains. Olympians Mark Turnbull, Brooke Stratton and Krystal Weir, along with some local pollies, also attended to celebrate the ribbon cutting celebration.
“We are really excited to open our third store in Victoria, in Moorabbin, and to be expanding our presence across Australia,” said Olivier Robinet, CEO of Decathlon Australia.
Naturally, Decathlon’s range of snow gear was of most interest to me. From warmers, to mids, to outers, plus gloves, goggles, helmets and even boots. Decathlon’s ethos is High Quality – Low Prices. They achieve this in part through their extensive range of home grown products.
“All these products are designed and tested in the French Alps” Olivier explained, and if you speak French you can check plenty of reviews from customers on their website. Decathlon’s snow brand is Wedze.
Olivier also lamented that in the three years he’s been in Australia he’s yet to hit our slopes; I suggested a quick day trip up to Buller might be in order.
Decathlon’s snow range and choice far exceeds their European rival Aldi’s once a year snow deals. The prices look just as sharp, or sharper, and the quality just as good if not better.
We look forward to testing their gear, particularly with the budget conscious rider in mind, or family guys like me mortgaged to the hilt.
“At Decathlon, we are great innovators. We have research and development facilities all over France to develop the latest innovative designs, registering up to 40 patents per year. Our Australian customers are loving all of our amazing innovative new products that we design and they are very affordable,” explained Olivier. “At Decathlon, we believe that all products should be of premium quality in order to make sport more accessible to the everyday Australian.”
