Big news for Mt Buller, and we don’t mean the great snow this season – continuing their investment program they are replacing the venerable Blue Bullet express quad with a new six pack for 2019 season!
Mt Buller skiers and snowboarders will enjoy a new, faster ride up Bourke Street next winter with the exciting announcement of a $6 million, 6-seater high-speed chairlift for season 2019.
The new lift replaces the legendary Blue Bullet quad chairlift with an upgrade to a larger and faster 6-seater. This means less time waiting in lines and more time on the snow for Mt Buller skiers and boarders.
“In 1983 Blue Bullet 1 & 2 were the first high-speed detachable quad chairlifts in the world. Local skiers and boarders will be a little sad to see Blue Bullet go as it’s been a big part of our mountain, but after moving a staggering 500,000 guests every winter – that’s 17 million passengers in its 34 year lifetime – we think it’s time to retire. There isn’t another chairlift in Victoria that has carried more passengers” says Buller media spokesperson Rhylla Morgan.
“It was the Bourke Street Lift Company that installed it. It was a prototype, and is now the only remaining lift of it’s kind operating. The new lift will move 700 more passengers per hour up the run and do so with improved child safety footrests.”
So enjoy riding the old girl this season and look forward to shorter waits and a comfier ride in 2019.
As a bonus, the new lift will require 5 less towers, which will open up more safe terrain for skiing and boarding into the village area.
This will be the fourth new chairlift added to the network at Mt Buller since 2005, and follows last year’s highly successful debut of Australia’s first snow factory system.
